About Sharpened Axe

Updated on

Sharpened Axe is an independent buying-guide site about chainsaws for home properties. We help you compare saws and choose one with less guesswork.

We write for people who own a yard, a few trees or a firewood pile and need a saw that fits the job. You don't need a logger's vocabulary, because we explain terms like bar length, chain pitch and engine size in plain words.

What we cover

Our guides cover gas, corded and battery chainsaws, plus pole saws. We also cover the gear that goes with them, like chaps, helmets, sharpeners, chains, bars and fuel mix.

Many guides compare two saws or two kinds of saw side by side, so you can see the trade-offs before you buy.

What we do

We read the product details, specs and maker information for every saw and accessory we cover. We also look at what buyers often say after using one.

Then we turn it all into plain guides and clear picks. You can read more on our How we research page.

What we don't do

We don't make, repair or sell saws, and no maker pays us to rank its products.

Sharpened Axe is an independent site. We aren't affiliated with Husqvarna, Stihl, Echo, Oregon, DeWalt or any other saw maker.

We don't give cutting instructions. A chainsaw can cause serious injury, so follow the maker's manual.

We don't claim to have tested every product ourselves. When we pick something, we tell you why, based on its specs, its features and buyer feedback.

How we earn money

Some links on this site go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

That never changes which products we pick. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
